Izvleček
Veliko strokovnjakov je preučevalo vpliv fizičnega okolja v vrtcih in začetnih razredih osnovne šole. Vsem ugotovitvam je skupno, da organizacija učilnice zagotavlja temelj za dobro poučevanje in učenje, predvsem pa prostor, kjer se učenci počutijo varno in sprejeto. Kotički niso le prostor za igro, ampak predstavljajo organiziran učni prostor, nefrontalno postavljene mize pa otroke vabijo k skupinskemu delu. Prostor, kjer se prvošolec počuti prijetno in domače, nudi podlago za pridobivanje znanja in veščin. Ali je fizični prostor pomemben tudi za učence drugega in tretjega vzgojno-izobraževalnega obdobja? Članek predstavlja nekatere ugotovitve, pridobljene v prvem letu razvojne naloge Vključujoča šola – vključujoči fizični prostor pod okriljem Zavoda RS za šolstvo.
Abstract
Physical Learning Environment and Sixth Graders’ Academic Achievement
Numerous studies have examined how the physical environment impacts learning in kindergartens and early primary grades, consistently highlighting the critical role of classroom layout. Effective classroom design supports successful teaching and learning and fosters a safe, accepting atmosphere for learners. Beyond serving as a play area, a well-designed learning space, such as a corner with grouped seating, promotes collaboration among young learners. For first-year pupils, a pleasant and inviting environment lays the groundwork for acquiring new skills and knowledge. However, does the physical space remain equally significant for older learners in the second and third learning cycles? This article presents findings from the first year of the Slovenian Institute of Education development project Vključujoča šola – vključujoči fizični prostor (Inclusive School – Inclusive Learning Space), shedding light on how physical environments impact academic achievement in this age group.
