Abstract

Innovative Pedagogy 1:1, Experiential Learning and the School Library

Pupils, secondary school students, university students, and all who are aware that learning is a lifelong process, are especially pleased when someone helps them to learn new subject matter; that is, when someone presents it clearly and substantiates it with modern approaches and technologies. When teaching library and information knowledge, it is important that they stick to the curriculum and at the same time to new guidelines on teaching and using ICT in lessons. The work of librarians is that much more demanding because they are always given a double task – not only are they imparting subject matter, but are also helping learners to search for additional sources and literature – they therefore have a double role, i.e. the role of a pedagogue and a librarian, and as such must be qualified and up-to-date in both fields, which, of course, requires a great deal of engagement, willpower and time. When imparting library and information knowledge (KIZ), it is sensible to incorporate the use of ICT, since almost every library has a digital catalogue, which is opening up new possibilities for the use of library services. The paper describes the Innovative Pedagogy 1:1 project, the l ibrary’s role in it, and presents an example of an activity using ICT.
