Abstract
Kindergarten: Where Geography Learning Begins
At the Črenšovci Kindergarten, we strive to make climate change education accessible to children by incorporating their prior knowledge and connecting it to real-life weather phenomena. Working with youngsters aged between one and three presents many challenges. Seasons and weather events always receive attention in our kindergarten. The Eco-School programme, which is also implemented in kindergartens, addresses various climate change challenges. The easiest way to introduce weather phenomena to children is to observe and undertake experiments, which are advanced in primary school education. To help children learn specific information, we deliver it through play and as many diverse activities as possible. This way, they remain fascinated by weather events, be it wind, sun, or rain, and are always eager to explore. They build and gain new knowledge based on their own experiences.
