Abstract
Including Sustainable Mobility in Lessons and Preparing for an Oral Presentation in 2nd Grade
Whether a child will be going to school or home alone is a decision made by the child’s parents, but the teacher also has great responsibility as he/she has to teach the children the rules of safe traffic behaviour. Besides safe participation in traffic, we must also think about a sustainable way of coming to school which would protect the environment and have a positive impact on the child’s social development; the latter aspect is, last but not least, closely connected with a person’s healthy lifestyle. Activities relating to proper and safe behaviour in traffic and contents relating to the principles of sustainable mobility are mostly carried out during Environmental Education lessons and through cross-curricular integration with other subjects. A few activities are described in the article, which also gives a detailed description of children preparing to orally describe – their route to school. The children prepared for their presentation according to the principles of formative assessment, which enabled them to actively participate in planning and evaluating the work, thus learning to take responsibility for their work. Indirectly, they also thought about the importance of sustainable mobility.
