Abstract
Implementing Common Objectives in Line with Literature Teaching Goals for Third Educational Cycle
The reformed curriculum, effective September 2026, requires Slovenian language teachers in Grade 7 to systematically introduce common objectives alongside subject-specific objectives in instruction. The article suggests several strategies for meaningfully addressing and implementing these objectives within literature classes. It systematically demonstrates the connection and intertwining of specific common objectives with subject-specific objectives and content. Although the introduction of these common objectives represents a significant novelty in the reformed curriculum, the authors note that certain competencies now included in common objectives were already being developed under the previous curriculum. In the reformed curriculum, their significance is more intentionally integrated, monitored, and built upon throughout the entire educational continuum.
