Abstract
Srečko’s Organic Garden
By launching the project Organic School Garden at the OŠ Srečka Kosovela Primary School, we started our own school garden. As an integral part of the schoolyard, this outdoor classroom provides ample opportunities for various types of activities, such as relaxation, socializing, and acquiring new knowledge, skills and habits. The article describes gardening and maintenance as extra-curricular activities that have been carried out at our school for seven years. Pupils learn about composting organic waste, designing a school garden, pruning trees, and growing strawberries and herbs. This approach stimulates children’s creativity, cultivates their appreciation of nature and encourages local food production. An organic school garden creates an opportunity for out-of-classroom education of elective courses and the building of knowledge capacity for sustainable development.
