Abstract

Non-European History in Primary School

In the past, despite its importance for understanding history in general, non-European history was discussed very little in primary schools. From the 1970s to the curricular reform of 2008, non-European topics were discussed only rarely in connection with Yugoslav history and not as individual topics. Over the years, their importance was discovered and their volume increased, as can be seen in the revised textbooks and curricula. Based on this realisation, History in primary schools was given the foundations for proper teaching, i.e. teaching the history of all the world‘s nations. The article discusses the volume of contents on non-European cultures in the revised History curriculum for primary school and in select History textbooks in primary school.
