France Prešeren in dr. Josip Ipavec umrla 8. februarja.
Abstract
The Year of Josip Ipavec and School Exhibitions as a Modern Didactic Approach to Preserving the Memory of Important Anniversaries
In 2021, we are commemorating and remembering important events, phenomena and processes, both at home and abroad, which are important for the Slovenian nation at the local, regional and national level, as well as on a broader, global scale. It should not be overlooked that on the initiative of the Municipality of Šentjur, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia declared the year 2021 the Year of Josip Ipavec. This year, many events will take place to commemorate the life and work of this acclaimed doctor and composer from Šentjur, and of the entire Ipavec family. The article sheds light on the memory of Dr Josip Ipavec on the centenary of his death, and briefly presents how certain educational institutes have become involved in commemorating and preserving the memory of him by carrying out key activities in connection with the Slovenian cultural holiday – Prešeren Day, since both compatriots, Dr France Prešeren and Dr Josip Ipavec, died on 8 February. When the article was being written, teachers, pupils and secondary school students became involved in commemorating and preserving the memory of him in a creative and innovative way, because for most of them, lessons were still being held at a distance. Under those circumstances, it was, of course, much harder to set up a school exhibition that would contribute to preserving and commemorating the memory of him. The rest of the article shows which learning contents and thematic units in the curricula and in the catalogues of knowledge standards for history are suitable for discussing, commemorating and remembering the death of Dr Josip Ipavec; in the end, the article presents the key principles that teachers should apply when setting up a school exhibition as a modern didactic approach to commemorating and preserving the memory of important events, phenomena and processes.
