Abstract
Teaching Geography Through Art
Using ICT in Geography Lessons
In the 2022/23 school year, the ninth-grade students from the Bežigrad Primary School in Ljubljana created an interactive augmented reality map of Slovenia, equipped with QR codes showing short stop- motion animations (i.e., the illusion of movement with rapid frame changes) of natural-geographical processes (floods, karst fields, marine erosion, etc.) typical of the predominantly superficial form of landscapes in Slovenia: karst, glacial, marine, river landforms, etc. The map and animations were developed in collaboration with the Kersnikova Institute, which has operated the Rampa laboratory for years as a platform for launching artistic initiatives by young innovators. The students spent four lessons producing stop-motion animations (recording the movement of puppets and objects with a camera), which involved four steps: preparation and preliminary information from the organisers and the teacher, student research and script preparation, production of scenography and the picture plan, and editing.
