Abstract
Students as Teachers
Cross-curricular integration has been practised in schools for decades. It is important to tailor instruction to students’ needs, create a pleasant learning environment, and draw on students’ experience by activating their prior knowledge and connecting it to new information. Learning content is predominantly linked horizontally. Nevertheless, vertical integration has often proved very successful. Cross-curricular integration is a flexible approach to teaching, which connects learning content and encourages teacher collaboration at the same time. In fact, it does not only incorporate different disciplines in education, it also calls for detailed planning of learning activities. Clearly, teachers should find objectives that are fitting to various subject areas. Cross-curriculum teaching can be implemented during all stages of instruction. The goal is holistic educational impact that will help students gain a holistic understanding of the world. Planning activities intelligently leads to better knowledge quality. Students learn about the process of integration, discover connections between subject areas and stronger correlations between concepts. Cross-curricular integration can be achieved more easily with younger pupils, who perceive the world in a holistic way.
