Raziskava preučuje, kako dvojezičnost vpliva na samopodobo in identiteto mladih priseljencev v Sloveniji. Na podlagi petih intervjujev z mladimi, starimi med 15 in 19 let, ugotavlja, da dvojezičnost presega zgolj tehnično znanje jezika – postaja osebna izkušnja prepletanja kultur. jezik deluje kot most med vključevanjem in ohranjanjem korenin. Rezultati kažejo, da so ključni dejavniki pozitivne samopodobe sprejetost, prijateljstvo in čustvena varnost. Mladi priseljenci tako niso razdvojeni, temveč predstavljajo ambasadorje dveh kultur ter so pomembni člani za bolj odprto, vključujočo in raznoliko slovensko družbo.
Abstract
Between Two Languages: Impact on Self-Image and Identity of Immigrant Youth
This study examines how bilingualism influences the self-image and identity of immigrant youth in Slovenia. Based on five interviews with young people aged 15 to 19, it shows that bilingualism goes beyond mere technical language proficiency — it becomes a personal experience of intertwining cultures. Language functions as a bridge between integration and the preservation of one’s roots. the results indicate that the key factors for a positive self-image are acceptance, friendship, and emotional security. Young immigrants are thus not torn between cultures, but rather serve as ambassadors of two cultures and represent important contributors to a more open, inclusive, and diverse Slovenian society.
