Abstract
Mathematically Talented Children
Mathematical skills as the basis of mathematical talent are the ability to quickly and easily operate with numbers and their relationships (Kavaš and Blažič, 2002). The purpose of the research using questionnaires was to determine the differences between mathematically talented students and other eighth and ninth grade students. The research included 35 documented mathematically talented students and 86 other students who answered 5 questions relative to calculation, mathematical significance, graphic representation and the international mathematical competition Mathematical Kangaroo. The results are given in percent separately for girls and boys. The most important research findings are that grades do not reflect talent. Even students who are not considered mathematically talented can be successful in mathematical competitions (Črnivec, 2009).
Note: The term mathematically talented students in the article refers to students who were recognized as
talented in mathematics.
