Članek opisuje raziskovalno nalogo, s katero je ekipa treh devetošolcev OŠ Solkan dosegla zlato priznanje na slovenskem tekmovanju mladih raziskovalcev na področju fizike in astronomije spomladi 2023 v Murski Soboti. Preverili smo odvisnost kotalnega trenja od polmera teles. Učenci so spuščali aluminijaste tulce in ležajne kroglice različnih polmerov po majhnem klancu in merili, kolikšno pot še naredijo na vodoravnih tleh. Ugotovili smo, da približno velja obratno sorazmerje med polmerom teles in silo kotalnega trenja tako za valje kot za kroglice. Ugotavljali smo še, kako lahko z mazivi zmanjšamo kotalno trenje.
Abstract
Rolling Friction of Cylinders and Spheres
This article describes research for which a team of three ninth-grade students from the Solkan Primary School won the Golden Plaque in the Slovenian competition of young researchers in physics and astronomy in the spring of 2023 in Murska Sobota. We checked the dependence of rolling friction on the radius of bodies. Students let aluminium tubes and ball bearings with different radii go down the small inclination path and measured the distance they made on horizontal ground. We found an approximate inverse proportion of friction force on the radii of bodies, both for cylinders and spheres. We also tested how the lubricants reduce rolling friction.
