Abstract
Promoting Reading in the School Library
The article describes how to attract young readers to the library. The established methods often used by librarians include exhibitions of new books, monthly book puzzles, thematic book exhibitions, and sleepovers in the library. The “Wild Race” project, which proved very successful in its first year, will be presented in more detail. The Wild Race is an inter-class competition where students earn points for their class by reading. The project has several goals: to attract students to the library, encourage reading, foster team spirit in the classroom, and subtly introduce students to quality and diverse literature. The project began on September 8, 2024 with the National Month of Collaborative Reading and was concluded on April 23, 2025 on Book Day. The project was designed so that every student from 3rd to 9th grade could read for five minutes in the library once a day, thereby earning a point for their class. The class that collected the most points won and earned a prize. The winning class, consisting of 17 students, collected 681 points, meaning they read for a total of 3,405 minutes.
