Abstract

Heal the World Singing Challenge

The distance teaching we, teachers, were faced with at the start of the pandemic of the COVID-19 coronavirus disease was an utterly new life and teaching experience for all of us. Without any preparation in advance, we had to use a great deal of resourcefulness in tackling the numerous challenges; seeing that we were worried for the well-being of our pupils, not all the challenges were of a technical nature. We had to find a way to connect with them online, to motivate them, and to create music with them. Among other things, we were searching for activities where we could integrate singing and playing musical instruments with the use of mobile technology attractive to young people. To this end, I prepared an online singing challenge at the Podlehnik Primary School of covering the song “Heal the World” (Michael Jackson). At home, the children fi rst made audio recordings of their singing using their mobile phones, followed by video recordings. A video was created from these recordings with which I attempted to encourage the children’s musical creativity during distance education. Moreover, the video also encourages children to preserve nature for a better future.
