Abstract

Young People with Special Needs in Transition to Employment

The transition from education to the workplace is often a difficult step for every adolescent. However, young people with special needs experience even greater problems in this transition. According to data, the majority of them stay at home after finishing school; some register in the record of the Employment Service of Slovenia; others become involved in the vocational rehabilitation process; and only rare ones find employment. While being unemployed they lose their basic employability skills. The project Prehod mladih (The Transition of Young People) is intended to find and develop solutions to the transition of young people with special needs from school to the labour market. With its comprehensive approach and systematic contents, this project increases the social inclusion of young people with special needs and helps to create a unified supporting environment as a gateway between school and the labour market, thus enabling the target group to enter the labour market empowered.
