Izvleček
Z branjem v otroštvu lahko bistveno okrepimo zavedanje samega sebe kot individuuma, ki je sposoben lastne presoje; branje v otroštvu spusti v nepregledne tolmune človekove osebnosti trdna sidra, ki mu bodo vedno lahko pomagala pri orientaciji in odločitvi za človeško presojo na prvem mestu. Kadar otrokom ponudimo branje, še posebno v zgodnjih letih, jim ponudimo možnost, da okrepijo zavedanje o samih sebi kot o vrtu, v katerem lahko zrastejo najrazličnejše rastline. Otroci imajo največjo sposobnost, da ob branju razvijajo intuicijo. Intuicija, čustvena razvitost, sposobnost razumeti sebe in drugega pa so ključni elementi srečne in odgovorne družbe. Intimni prostor jezika tako širi tudi javni prostor. Pri šolanju in bivanju doma in v tujini sem imela možnost doživljati številne jezike in kulture. Kot literarna prevajalka in književnica, ki piše v slovenščini, delujem tudi v mednarodnem prostoru. Moja izkušnja je, da bolj ko spoznavam druge jezike, bolj spoznavam in cenim svoj prvi jezik; temeljno spoznanje pri delu z jezikom oz. jeziki pa je, da se prava narava jezika in njegovih zmožnosti razkrije šele v raziskovanju globine umetniškega dela. Če je besedilo splošne komunikativne narave mogoče prenesti v drug jezik po določenih standardih in normiranem kodu, lahko v prihodnosti pričakujemo, da bodo strojni prevajalniki sposobni dokaj uspešno prevesti večino takšnih besedil iz kateregakoli v katerikoli jezik. Drugačna pa je situacija z literarnim jezikom in literarnim prevajanjem in tako bi šola, ki želi učence pripravljati za prihodnost, morala porazdeliti pozornost med učenjem t. i. normiranega jezika in jezikov ter z vzgajanjem ljubezni do specifičnega jezika v njegovi posameznosti in ustvarjalnih zmožnostih, torej tudi v neologističnih rabah, igri z jezikom, kar spodbuja zavedanje o specifičnosti slovenščine. Književna dela so kot univerzum, v katerem smisel razpostavlja svojo podobo glede na kontekst in v katerem se znajdejo posamezni semantični elementi kot povsem novo ozvezdje. V času globalizacije nas literatura vabi v plastenje naše izkušnje in predstavlja različna »nadstropja«, na katerih jo lahko beremo: odvisno od razpoloženja, osebnosti, okoliščin. Posebno pesniška beseda je kot kalejdoskop: kakršen je naš pogled, takšno sliko nam bo pokazala tudi poezija, ki jo beremo. Kot je zapisal Aleš Debeljak: pesem razpostavi besedno tkanino tako, da se o življenju vprašamo na način, ki nima linearne rešitve.
Abstract
Kaleidoscope of Words
Childhood reading can significantly strengthen self-awareness as an individual capable of self-judgement; childhood reading firmly plants into the inexhaustible pools of one‘s personality solid anchors that will, first and foremost, always help one find the right direction and form a human judgement. When we offer children the opportunity to read, especially at an early age, we offer them the chance to strengthen their awareness of themselves as a garden where all kinds of plants can flourish. Children have the most remarkable capacity to develop intuition when they read. Intuition, emotional development, and understanding oneself and others are essential for a happy and responsible society. The intimate space of language thus extends to the public space. While studying and living at home and abroad, I experienced a broad spectrum of languages and cultures. As a literary translator and Slovenian writer, I also work internationally. My experience has shown that the more I study other languages, the more I learn about and respect my first language. Working with language(s), I have also realised that the true nature of language and its potential only reveals itself when we delve into the depths of a work of art. If a text with a broad communicative purpose can be translated into another language using specific standards and standardised coding, we can anticipate machine translation engines to be able to effectively convert the majority of such texts from any language into any other. The situation with literary language and literary translation is different, so a school wishing to prepare its students for the future would have to divide its attention between teaching the so-called standardised language and languages and instil a love of a specific language in its individuality and creative potential, including neologisms, and play with language, which fosters an awareness of the specificity of Slovenian. Literary works are like a cosmos in which meaning arranges its image based on context, and individual semantic parts appear as an entirely new constellation. In the age of globalisation, literature enables us to layer our experiences and offers many „floors“ on which to read it, depending on our mood, personality, and circumstances. The poetic word, in particular, is like a kaleidoscope: regardless of our point of view, poetry will present the reader with the same image. As Aleš Debeljak once wrote: Poetry arranges the fabric of words so that we can investigate life in a non-linear fashion.
