Abstract
GoChile – First Slovenian Telescope in Chile
In 2021 GoChile began its observations – it is an educational and research project of the School of Science at the University of Nova Gorica and the astronomical journal Spika. GoChile consists of a 400-mm reflecting telescope co-mounted with a 72-mm refracting telescope; they are located at the El Sauce Observatory in Chile, in a location with a dark sky and more than 300 clear nights per year. The telescopes are remotely controlled and provide diverse observations, from astrophotography to the research projects of secondary school and university students. The GoChile project enables gaining experience with astronomical observations, remotely controlling equipment, processing and analysing data, and developing the competences of critical thinking, of planning and implementing a research project, of presenting results, and so on.
