Abstract
Is It Really that Hard to Develop an IEP for a Gifted Pupil?
The article discusses the topic of giftedness, focusing on a demonstration of how to develop an ppropriate Individualized Education Programme (hereinafter “IEP”). Gifted pupils make up 5–8 % of the primary school student population. Signs of giftedness usually emerge in early childhood; giftedness is usually recorded and identified between grades 2 and 8. Gifted education requires the development of an individualized programme, which is developed by a class teacher in cooperation with the pupil, the parents and the counselling service. When developing a gifted programme, various questions and problems often arise, which are addressed in the article. An individualized programme is a starting point for optimal gifted education.
