Izvleček

Članek ponuja pregled zgodovine Dubrovniške republike od ustanovitve mesta v času bizantinske vladavine na Jadranu do dokončne ukinitve republike med napoleonskimi vojnami. Osrednji del članka je posvečen obdobju največjega vzpona, tako imenovani »zlati dobi« v 15. in 16. stoletju, ko je Dubrovnik dosegel vrhunec v posredniški trgovini na Balkanu in v Sredozemlju ter s pridobljenim bogastvom izboljšal vse segmente življenja v državi. Članek poudarja pomen dubrovniške diplomacije kot ključnega sredstva za doseganje in ohranjanje neodvisnosti na več mestih.

Abstract

The Republic of Dubrovnik

The article offers an overview of the history of the Republic of Dubrovnik, from the foundation of the city during the Byzantine reign in the Adriatic region until the final abolition of the republic during the Napoleon wars. The central part of the article is dedicated to the period of the greatest rise, the so-called Golden Age, in the 15th and 16th centuries, when Dubrovnik reached its peak in intermediary trade in the Balkans and the Mediterranean, and, with the riches acquired, improved all segments of life in the country. The article emphasizes the importance of the Dubrovnik diplomacy as a key asset for achieving and preserving independence in several aspects.
