Vsi pripadniki Gorenjske samozaščite so umrli leta 1945, večina v povojnih pobojih.
Abstract
The Wartime Fates of Men from the Municipality of Vodice, Born between 1916 and 1926
The article presents the results of a study on the wartime fate of men from the municipality of Vodice, born between 1916 and 1926 – a generation of men forcibly conscripted into the German army by the German occupier during the Second World War. The main goal was to determine how many men of this age group died due to the war, how many survived and in which military units. At the beginning of the Second World War, 315 men born between 1916 and 1926 lived in the Vodice area. Sixty percent survived the war, 35% died, and for 5%, no data could be found. A total of 294 men were forcibly conscripted from the Vodice area, 37% of whom deserted. Sixty-four deserters joined partisan units and 46 joined the Upper Carniola Home Guard. During the war, 110 men from the Vodice municipality born between 1916 and 1926 died – 40% in the German army, 31% in partisan units, 25% in the Upper Carniola Home Guard, and the rest as civilians. Most deaths in the German army occurred in 1944 (63%), and the same year also saw the highest number of casualties in the partisan units (58%). All members of the Upper Carniola Home Guard died in 1945, most of them in postwar executions. The majority of partisan casualties were caused by the German armed forces, those in the German army by the Soviet Red Army, and those in the Upper Carniola Home Guard by the Yugoslav Army. During the war, 200 families from the Vodice municipality feared for the lives of men born between 1916 and 1926; half of these families lost one or two men during the war.
